…As UNIOSUN organizes two days of leadership training workshop for Student leaders
The management of Osun State University has recently conducted a two days training workshop for the student leaders of the university. The training workshop themed setting an agenda for a laudable future was organized by the University for the Students to be able to be good ambassadors of the Nation, state, University, and their family in any endeavour they found themselves.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola while declaring the programme opened at MicCom Golf and Resort, Ada, Osun State advised the student leaders to be positive leaders that are notable for their strength of character and integrity with varieties of qualities which can be developed with this type of workshops.
The Guest Speaker at the opening ceremony of the workshop, Honorable Olatunde Olatunji (The Chief Whip of Osun state House of Assembly) lauds the Management of Osun State University led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola for his exemplary leadership in the University. Honourable Olatunji while delivering his lecture thereby advise the students to be critical thinkers, problem solvers and focus on their studies. “We have had a lot of problem identifiers but no problem solvers. For you to be a good leader, you have to be a problem solver and must be able to see ahead of the people you are leading. The future of this World, Country, and the State are in your hand, don’t think you are too young to make an impact. Gone are the days of “Ever Militant Nigerian Students” Now I implore you to start working towards “Ever Brilliant, Ever Intelligent Nigerian Students.” Successful leaders are not the leaders that have all they need, operate in the environment they want but leaders that have the determination to succeed in any situation,” Honorable Olatunji added
The chairman of the workshop, Honorable Commissioner of Works and Transport, Engineer Remi Omowaye who was one time a student leader while in the university also commends the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola for organizing the training workshop for the student leaders. He, therefore promises to advise the Executive Governor of the state to do the same training workshop for the student leaders in all tertiary institutions in the state. He further shared his experience as a student leader in the University as that of a problem solver. “I was able to develop an application for the University that automates the admission process and they paid me. I, therefore advise you to not only focus on your study alone but to look around for problems in the society that you can solve,” Engineer Omowaye added.
The Chief Executive Officer and founder of Courage Consultancy, Mrs Bola Ogunrinade also lends her voice to the student leaders by advising them to dream big, be prepared always, work hard, have a goal, fear God, be involved in improving communities and find time for exercise and relaxation. “Whilst at UNIOSUN, all your financial needs will most probably be met by your parents and guardians but when you graduate, you have to learn how to fend for yourself. Your University degree is useless if it does not empower you to cope with the stress of daily living,” Mrs Ogunriande added.
Dr. (Mrs.) Juliana Akindele (Sub – Dean, Ikire Campus) in a vote of thanks delivered on behalf of the Student Affairs Unit, thanked the University for the opportunity given to the students to undergo the training and encourage the Management to do more.
The student leaders at the training were so thrilled and thankful to the Management of the University for the Wonderful and eye-opener training workshop and promise to keep the advice in their left hands to be able to use it in their day to day activities in the University and beyond.
