Kebbi Beach Soccer Club backed by WACOT Rice has achieved a historic feat by qualifying for the round of 16 after coming back from two consecutive defeats with a resounding 15-1 triumph over Slovakian Club BS Vion, at the ongoing World Winners’ Cup 2023 holding from September 26th – October 1st, 2023, in Alghero, on the northwest coast of Sardinia, Italy.
‘Kebbi Fishers’ as the current, and two-time Nigerian Beach Soccer League champions are fondly called earlier lost by 2-4 against Danish side Copenhagen BSC, and 7-4 to Italian side ASD Napoli respectively but, dust off the losses by bouncing back with an emphatic 15-1 victory over Slovakian side BS Vion as Group A best losers on Thursday September 28.
The Nigerian team led by Coach Abdullahi Isa has set a date with destiny as they look to consolidate the victory over the Slovakian side when the ‘Kebbi Fishers’ files out against Spanish side and Group E leaders Bahía de Mazarrón on Friday September 29, with high hopes hinging on the support from TGI Group subsidiary, WACOT Rice Limited, to clinching the quarter final ticket.
The team expressed confidence in its ability to edge out the Spanish side to the next stage of the tournament as the team has great promise in this tournament so far and have confidence in the team coming out victorious against our opponent in the round of 16.
Kebbi Fishers are Africa’s best beach soccer club and former world champion in 2019, and this year the boys are poised to go all the way to making history again. WACOT Rice, the entire TGI Group, and the good people of Nigeria are behind the team solidly.
In the same vein, Kebbi Beach Soccer Club Chairman, who doubles as the President of the African Beach Soccer Union and Coordinator of Nigeria Beach Soccer League, Mahmud Hadejia, was full of encomiums for the team’s gallant performance so far in the tournament noting that they have made not just Nigeria but the continent of Africa proud with that superlative performance against Slovakian side, with a victory which resulted in round of 16 qualification.
“The team’s growth trajectory and achievements in Nigeria and Africa give us hope that it will soon become a major force in global beach soccer. The team has demonstrated this in the World Winners’ Cup 2023, and we are solidly behind them to come out victorious” Hadejia expressed.
In 2019, Kebbi Beach Soccer Club participated in the World Winners’ Cup club championship in Turkey as the only team to represent Africa.
Promotion of youth development through sports has been one of TGI Group’s core brand pillars to curb social vices. Recently, its subsidiary WACOT Rice signed a 4-Year partnership deal with Kebbi Beach Soccer Association.
